Representative of Azerbaijani ruling party: It's time to name a new city after Heydar Aliyev
The Azerbaijani government plans to set up two new cities, one of which will be named after the former President Heydar Aliyev, the Azerbaijani information portal "Haqqin.az" reports, referring to the site Aktual.az.
As noted in the article, the deputy executive secretary of the "Yeni Azerbaijan Party” (YAP) Siyavush Novruzov stated that one of the new towns is planned to be built in Aliat, the other is planned to be built between the towns of Shabran and Siyazan.
"It has been repeatedly voiced that it is necessary to assign one of the cities in Azerbaijan after Heydar Aliyev," the MP said, adding that in Nakhijevan there is a town there called Heydarabad. "Now it's time to call another city after Heydar Aliyev," he assured.
In Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev's personality cult formed during his lifetime, this process still continued after his death. In honor of the former president streets and parks, various places (including the airport in Baku and refineries) were named after him. The schoolbooks call Heydar Aliyev a "great leader" and the “savior of Azerbaijan”.
