No political prisoners in Armenia – Minister
There are no political prisoners in Armenia, Justice Minister of Armenia Hovhannes Manukyan said at a Facebook press conference organized by Azatutyun TV.
No report by any international human rights monitoring organization or by any country has said that there are political prisoners in Armenia, according to the Minister.
Asked to comment on the imprisonment of Volodya Avetisyan, Shant Harutyunyan and his friends, the official said, “Politics and criminal law are two different things. An individual can take part in political process and commit violations that are classified as unlawful and criminally liable in the logic of the criminal legislation and Criminal Code.”
