Armed assault made upon mountain Jews community leader’s house in Azerbaijan
The mountain Jews religious community in leader Boris Simanduev’s house in Krasnaya Sloboda settlement, Azerbaijan was attacked by a group of masked people. Simanduev and his sister were physically assaulted. She has been stabbed and is currently hospitalized, the Azerbaijani information agency “Turan” reports.
Gubinsky district police station did not tell anything to “Turan” about the motives of the crime, except that the investigation was in process. The police station has initiated a criminal case under Criminal Code, Article 181, part 3, point 2 (brigandage). However, if the assaulters are found out to belong to a radicalized movement, the character of the crime will be totally different.
Krasnaya Sloboda is a large settlement in the North of Azerbaijan, which is historically resided by a dense population of a few thousands of mountain Jews.
