Israeli airstrikes aimed at damaging Syria facilities – commentator
Israel is helping the ISIL Takfiri terrorists operating in Syria by conducting airstrikes in an attempt to destroy the Syrian government facilities, says a commentator.
Kevork Elmassian, academic and political commentator from Beirut, said in an interview with Press TV that “there is a direct link between the Israelis and the so-called rebels in the southern part of Syria, namely in the Golan Heights.”
He added that Israelis “were cooperating with these so-called rebels in order to vandalize the sophisticated systems of the Syrian government, namely the radars, also the air defense systems.”
The commentator also stated that the Israeli military “targeted the Syrian facilities after the recent advancement of Syrian government in Deir al-Zour and in the northern part of Aleppo.”
Israeli warplanes carried out two air assaults against an area of the Damascus International Airport and another airport in the town of Dimas on Sunday.
The Syrian army issued a statement later in the day, saying the airstrikes by Tel Aviv were aimed at helping the ISIL militants operating in the Arab country.
Elmassian added that if Israel prepares itself for an escalation against Hezbollah and Syria, it will face a “harsh response” from the resistance in Lebanon and Syria.
“Any casualties from the Israeli side mean a defeat for the Israelis. Israelis cannot tolerate a lot of casualties. They cannot tolerate deaths and destruction in their infrastructure. Therefore, any retaliation from Syria and Hezbollah will be considered a victory on the Israeli entity,” he said.
Over the past months, the Syrian army has repeatedly seized huge quantities of Israeli-made weapons and advanced military equipment from the foreign-backed militants inside Syria.
