Speaker of Armenian National Assembly Galust Sahakyan on Tuesday received newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Armenia Tiang Erlung, the press service of the Armenian parliament reported.

Galust Sahakyan highlighted the high-level political contacts between the two countries. He underscored the role of parliamentary diplomacy and expressed willingness to boost Armenian-Chinese inter-parliamentary cooperation. Also, he highly assessed the joint projects between Armenia and China.

Speaking about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Galust Sahakyan noted that Armenia is committed to the principle of negotiated settlement of the conflict and highly appreciates China’s balanced position on this matter.

In his remarks about the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, Mr Sahakyan expressed the hope that China will participate in the commemoration events that will be held in April 2015.

Tiang Erlung, for his part, said that it is a great honor and responsibility for him to be the Ambassador of China in Armenia. He highly assessed the cooperation between the two friendly countries’ parliaments. Mr Erlung highlighted the cooperation in the cultural, trade, economic, and humanitarian areas.

The envoy expressed the hope that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be resolved through peace talks.
