Yeni Musavat: Wahhabis bribe Azerbaijani officials to stop their followers’ prosecution
The campaigns that had been launched at the beginning of the year against Wahhabis and radicalized religious groups have stopped in Azerbaijan. The process that was on for a few months has declined and apparently is getting forgotten. There is a certain reason for putting an end to the process of unmasking the activities of the radicalized groups in Azerbaijan, including the Wahhabis, “Minval.az” reports.
The factor of global bribery has played a special role here. This “method” has helped reach a certain agreement with individuals who are responsible in that field. According to the information received, the high officials came to an agreement with Wahhabi patrons from Saudi Arabia and UAE for a huge sum of money.
Information about using this kind of “methods” has been received before as well. Azerbaijani expert Aidin Alizadeh told about it during a briefing pointing out a sum of 5 million dollars for a yearly support of the Salafi network. This included support from the outside, income from local Salafi business, as well as the members’ donations.
At the beginning of the year “Yeni Musavat” newspaper office got information about some officials, including A. Pashazadeh, the Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office, getting a huge sum of “donations” for creating opportunities to spread Wahhabi teachings in Azerbaijan.
The old tactics came into action again with several Azerbaijani government officials being bribed for putting an end to prosecutions of Wahhabi organizations, mosques and individuals and providing them with patronage. That is the reason why the topic about radical movement receded into the background.
