US drone strikes failed policy – activist
The United States seeks to foster sectarian conflict in different countries through the policy of using drone strikes, which is a “failed policy,” says an activist.
Ryan Dawson, a human rights activist from Japan, said in an interview with Press TV that the drone strikes are a “failed policy,” adding that the US “is not really interested in the results that it tries to preach and it is interested in fostering conflict for as long as possible.”
“The US is trying to foster a sectarian violence as it generates profits for the industrial military complex. They have got a new toy - these drones. Nobody can stand them and they are still doing targeted killings. It never worked … it is a failed policy and they do not care,” he stated.
A leaked CIA report has shown that US counterinsurgency programs and drone strikes targeting militants in Iraq and Afghanistan have been unsuccessful.
The report shows that the “targeted killings” have had “limited results” and that they bolster the support of the extremist groups.
Dawson also noted that these drone strikes often are not killing “high valued targets,” adding that most of the times they are killing civilians.
The activist argued that these leaked reports are going “the opposite direction.”
“I do not think these leaked reports are an attempt to get away from drones. I think these leaked reports are to say, ‘Look, the drones are enough. We are going to have to put more boots on the ground,’” he said.
Since 2009, the US has carried out numerous targeted killings in Pakistan, Afghanistan and certain other countries, using unmanned aerial vehicles.
The drone strikes in Afghanistan are highly controversial as they have claimed many civilian lives so far.
