In Baku office of Azerbaijani service of Radio Liberty search kicks off: phones and Internet are cut off
The Baku Office of the Azerbaijani service of "Radio Liberty" is being searched. The search is carried out by the employees of the General Prosecutor's Office in the presence of a lawyer, two desk staff and witnesses, "Caucasian Knot" reports.
As noted in the article, the search has started at 10.30 in Baku time. Prosecutors’ office decided to start a search.
All the employees of the offices have been withdrawn from the office, the telephone and the Internet are disconnected, reads the statement posted on the website of the Azerbaijani service of "Radio Liberty" based in the Prague.
As stated in the article, the representatives of the General Prosecutor's Office brought their witnesses with them. After lawyer Yalcin Imanov demanded to be present at the ongoing activities they were allowed to attend it, besides two other staff members of the offices were allowed there too.
Leadership of the Baku Office of the Azerbaijani service of "Radio Liberty" has not yet commented on the situation. One of the desk staff told the "Caucasian Knot" that the official position regarding this case will be expressed, probably, at the end of the search.
No comments have been received from the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office so far, writes the "Caucasian Knot".
On December 5, morning, well-known Azerbaijani journalist Khadija Ismayilova was detained after being questioned at the prosecutor's office. Baku Sabail District Court made a decision to detain her for two months. She was charged with incitement to suicide. If the fault of the journalist is proven, then she can be punished by a term of 3 to 7 years in prison. Khadija Ismayilova has become the target of attacks of the government for her journalistic activities. Ismayilova is an author of a number of journalistic investigations of corruption in the highest echelons of power in Azerbaijan. In recent years, she is conducting a talk show in the Azerbaijani Service of “Radio Liberty”.
