Istanbul female suicide bomber identified as Russian citizen
The female suicide bomber who killed a police officer in a Tuesday attack in Istanbul's touristic Sultanahmet district has been identified as a Russian citizen, Today’s Zaman reported.
According to the Dogan news agency, Diana Ramazova was behind the deadly attack in the historic heart of Istanbul that killed one police officer and injured another. It is suspected that the bomber may have had Chechen origins.
The bomber blew herself up at a police station in Sultanahmet district on Tuesday, killing herself, one officer and wounding another.
The Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C) had claimed responsibility for the attack, and it was the second one claimed by the group in a week against Istanbul police. Last week, police subdued a man after he threw grenades and fired a weapon at officers near the prime minister's offices.
