Azerbaijan attempts cross-border incursion in Tavush; Armenian shepherd killed
On January 11, Azerbaijani forces tried to infiltrate Armenian military positions in Tavush province, Armenian Defense Ministry spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan wrote on Facebook.
“Today, at around 5:30 pm, Azerbaijani forces attempted a subversive attack along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, near Baghanis village in Tavush province.
“The advance of the enemy’s troops was detected in time. The Armenian army’s rapid response unit neutralized the subversive operation.
“The body of one of the members of the enemy’s subversive group is in the territory between the [Armenian and Azerbaijani] military positions. Unfortunately, a shepherd, Seryozha Sargsyan, 79, was killed during the exchange of fire.
“The Republic of Armenia armed forces keep full control of the situation. The military and political leadership of Azerbaijan is fully responsible for the incident,” Hovhannisyan wrote.
