A cruise ship passenger has been rescued by another cruise vessel, five hours after falling into the Caribbean, the BBC reported.

The unnamed US man says he does not remember what happened before he fell into the water in the early hours of the morning off Cozumel, Mexico.

The 22-year-old had been travelling on a Royal Caribbean ship and was collected by the Disney Magic after a passenger heard him calling for help.

He is said to be in a good condition, having been flown back to the US.

The rescued man had been travelling on Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas vessel, one of the world's largest cruise ships.

Scott Campbell, a passenger on the Disney Magic, told US news network ABC he had been on his balcony at about 06:30 (12:30 GMT) when he heard the man shouting "somebody help me" from the water.

Amateur video of the rescue shows a man swimming through rough waters to an orange lifeboat apparently launched from the Disney vessel.

The boat was around 1.6km (one mile) from the Mexican coast at the time the man was picked up.

Cozumel Port Captain Alfonso Rodriguez said the man had been fortunate to escape without serious injury.

"Most people that experience that kind of fall break their neck," he told CNN. "It's like hitting concrete."
