Haykakan Zhamanak: Several Armenian banks to merge
Several Armenian banks will merge in the near future, with the number of banks to be reduced from 21 to 14, Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
Mary Shahinyan, a spokesperson for the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA), did not deny the report.
“We plan to increase the charter capital to stabilize the banks,” she said.
On December 30, the CBA Board decided to increase the minimum total capital of banks from 5 billion to 30 billion drams, which will lead to a merger of banks. Ameriabank and Inecobank are named among the banks that are expected to be merged.
