Memorial service for slain Gyumri family
Since early morning, residents of Armenia’s second largest city of Gyumri are flocking to Surb Nshan Church to pay tribute to the Avetisyan family, cruelly murdered in their house on Monday morning, and to extend their condolences to the victims’ relatives.
Memorial service for the murdered family started at 5:00 pm. Surb Nshan Church is crowded.
Those attending the ceremony state that this is not the tragedy of one family, but the tragedy of Gyumri and the entire country.
Six members of one family were found dead in their house in Gyumri on Monday morning. A six-month-old baby was hospitalized with stab wounds and underwent surgery. Valery Permyakov, a serviceman of the 102nd Russian military base stationed in Gyumri, the main suspect in the murder, was detained by Russian border guards while attempting to cross the Armenian-Turkish border near Yerazgavors village in Armenia’s Shirak province.
