US has done nothing to fight ISIL – analyst
A political commentator says the United States has done nothing to fight the Takfiri ISIL terrorist group operating in the Middle East, Press TV reports.
Tim King said in an interview with Press TV that the US contribution to the ongoing fight against the ISIL and other terrorist groups have been ineffective and very insignificant.
“I don’t think that the US did anything,” King said.
He noted that the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq created deep divisions among Iraqi communities and fueled terrorism.
The analyst expressed doubts about the US’s intention to fight the ISIL, saying that President Barack Obama was not justified to bring back its forces to Iraq over the pretext of fighting militancy.
The United States began targeting positions held by the Takfiri ISIL terrorists in Iraq in August 2014. Washington also launched a military campaign with its Arab allies against ISIL in Syria on September 23.
Washington says it is striking ISIL positions in both Iraq and Syria, but there is skepticism on both sides of the border about the real objective of the airstrikes.
Touching upon a recent series of gains by the Iraqi army, King said that the soldiers backed by Shia volunteers and Sunni tribes could drive the ISIL from militant-held areas very soon.
Iraq’s Premier Haidar al-Abadi has recently criticized the US-led coalition forces for their delay in providing the Iraqi army with support and training to fight the ISIL terrorists.
King hoped that the Iraqi army backed by local forces will soon flush out the ISIL terrorists from the strategic town of Mosul and other towns.
The ISIL militants control large parts of Iraq and Syria.
