France’s decision to continue strikes against ISIL ineffective – activist
France’s decision to extend its airstrikes against what is called positions held by the ISIL Takfiri militants in Iraq is going to be ineffective, an activist tells Press TV.
Sabah Jawad, director of Iraqi Democrats against Occupation from London, said in an interview with Press TV that French authorities, by extending the mission in Iraq, are “telling the French public and the Europeans that they are attempting to do something to fight terrorism.”
“But this is going to be ineffective,” he stated.
Jawad also noted that “if the Western governments want the people to believe they are doing something against terrorism, they should cease supporting such groups.”
“They should actually start seriously containing these people and not to play around with these terrorist groups and supporting them.”
The activist argued that the Western governments should admit that they made “huge mistakes” in supporting these terrorists; and that they will “change their tactics” and end their support for such people who “commit atrocities in the Middle East.”
France’s parliament has overwhelmingly voted for the continuation of airstrikes against ISIL positions in Iraq as part of a US-led campaign.
Since August, the United States and some of its allies have been conducting the airstrikes.
The coalition strikes against ISIL continues to yield no results with analysts arguing that the main aim of Washington and its allies is to keep the wars going to destabilize countries like Iraq.
