President Sargsyan meets with head of Russian Investigative Committee
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Tuesday met with chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin, the presidential press service reported.
The Armenian leader noted that the tragedy that took place in Gyumri on January 12 requires unprecedented consistency to reveal all its details. With regard to the investigation of the crime, the Armenian President stressed that the two countries’ law enforcement agencies should continue to cooperate effectively, following the process through to its logical end.
The head of the Russian Investigative Committee said that they have reached perfect mutual understanding with their Armenian colleagues and they have a clear idea of what kind of work Russian authorized bodies need to do to support the investigation being conducted by Armenian law enforcement agencies.
The actions carried out by Russian authorized bodies both at the military base stationed in Gyumri and in the Russian territory are directed at ensuring a comprehensive investigation of the crime and all its circumstances, finding the killers and holding them accountable.
Mr Bastrykin also expressed confidence that a public enquiry into the case to be conducted in Armenia will become the testimony to the two sides’ aspiration to achieve justice and ensure a fair trial.
