Middle East Quartet envoys try to revive peace process in Gaza
Envoys from the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations have expressed a desire to revive the Middle East Peace Process and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza after a Middle East Quartet meeting, Sputnik News reported.
The Quartet envoys said is a statement Monday that they "shared assessments of the political outlook for the region and prospects for reviving the Middle East Peace Process. They explored the role that the Quartet could play in supporting the resumption of meaningful negotiations with the aim of achieving a comprehensive peace agreement based on a two-state solution."
According to the statement, the envoys "also underscored the urgency of improving the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and agreed that every effort should be made to encourage the fulfillment of pledges of assistance made at the Cairo Conference on the reconstruction of Gaza in October last year."
The envoys stressed that it is highly important to engage with Arab partners in the Middle East Peace Process.
Earlier on Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia and Israel believe that leading Arab countries need to play a more active role in Middle East issues, referring more specifically to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
