Armenian FM praises relations with Iran
On January 27, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian met Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is paying a two-day visit to Armenia, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.
Welcoming the guest, Minister Nalbandian noted, “We commend mutually beneficial and meaningful relations between Armenia and Iran. Each of such meetings contributes to the further development and strengthening of cooperation.”
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Foreign Minister of Iran Zarif, in his turn, said that Iran attaches great importance to the expansion of relations with Armenia in different areas. He attached significance to the role of the Iranian-Armenian community both in the development of the country and deepening of Armenian-Iranian cooperation.
The sides discussed numerous issues on the bilateral agenda, reaffirming both sides’ willingness to develop mutually beneficial cooperation, based on centuries-old friendship of the two peoples. The Ministers shared the view that Armenian-Iranian relations are exemplary from the point of view of cooperation between Christian and Muslim states.
Ministers Nalbandian and Zarif touched upon the agreements reached by the Presidents of the two states and the work of the Armenian-Iranian inter-governmental commission.
Issues related to the expansion of trade and economic cooperation were on the agenda of the talks. In this context, the sides spoke about joint transport and energy projects.
A range of pressing regional issues were discussed. Minister Nalbandian stressed that Armenia is always for a lasting peace and establishment and strengthening of stability in the region.
Minister Nalbandian expressed satisfaction with the positive trends in the talks on the Iran nuclear program, and expressed hope that the agreements reached around the issue could pave the way for its comprehensive resolution.
Mr Nalbandian presented joint efforts exerted by Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair states towards exclusively peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Edward Nalbandian noted that Armenia appreciates Iran’s balanced stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
