Economist: Central Bank decision not right remedy to tackle crisis
I share the concern that the Central Bank’s decision is not the right remedy against crisis, Tatul Manaseryan, head of Alternative Research Center, told reporters on Thursday, commenting on the last decision of the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA).
Under the decision, the banks operating in Armenia must increase their minimum capital six-fold - from 5 billion drams up to 30 billion drams.
According to the economist, he has two concerns. The first is about risk management, and the second, which is more important, is about whether the banks serve the real sector – economic development.
“This is very important as the main function of the banks is to promote economic development,” Manaseryan said.
