Leaflets announcing the arrival of the Islamic State militant group have been spotted in the Swedish town of Knivsta some 30 miles from Stockholm, stirring fears among the local population, Swedish news website Fria Tider reported, according to Sputnik News.

Adhered to surfaces outside the city hall and a school, the leaflets announced that the “faithful” had come to Knivsta and threatened that the "days of the infidels are counted," the news outlet said on Monday.

The propaganda leaflets also quoted a line from Quran on striking off heads of infidels with swords, and made a reference to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader and self-proclaimed “caliph” of IS, who said that Muslims must not obey the laws of infidels.

“That’s why we must rise and enforce the laws of Allah, sharia, and destroy all infidels who oppose us,” the leaflets said.

The threats raised concern among the 7,000 residents of the Swedish town. But police spokesman Christer Nordstrom assured they were not a serious threat, according to Fria Tider.

Police launched an investigation into the incident, although they admitted having no suspects.

Islamic State proclaimed a caliphate over swathes of Iraq and Syria in summer 2014. Around 300 Swedes are estimated to have traveled to the Middle East in order to to fight alongside IS, according to Swedish security services. Some 80 are reported to have returned to Sweden.
