UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed a number of international issues, including the conflict in Ukraine, the organization said in a statement published Tuesday, Sputnik reported.

"With regard to the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine, the Secretary-General expressed his expectation that all concerned parties would live up to their commitments as agreed in Minsk on 12 February, particularly following the unanimous adoption of Security Council Resolution 2202," the statement read.

The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister also discussed the situations in Libya, Yemen and Syria, as well as the need for a comprehensive international response to the fight against the Islamic State extremist group.

Foreign Minister Lavrov was at the United Nations in New York on Monday to participate in the debate organized by the UN Security Council's President for February, China, to "Reflect on history, reaffirm the strong commitment to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the UN."

By resolution 2202, the UN Security Council called on all parties to fully implement the Minsk Agreements, adopted on February 12 in Belarus capital Minsk.

The set of measures agreed by the leaders of Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine comprised of 13 points. It included a ceasefire from February 15, the withdrawal of heavy artillery from the line of contact, an all-for-all prisoner exchange and a constitutional reform in Ukraine with a focus on decentralization of power.
