Kerry confirms meeting with Lavrov next week
US Secretary of State John Kerry confirmed that he will be meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov next week to discuss a variety of issues, Sputnik reported, citing the Secretary Kerry's statement during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing.
“On Saturday [February 28] I will have meetings with Foreign Minister Lavrov on Syria, and on other things,” Kerry told the Senate Committee on Tuesday.
He added that in the coming week he will be “focused on Iran negotiations, and Ukraine, and Afghanistan,” in addition to other matters.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Rybakov said on Monday that Lavrov and Kerry would likely conduct bilateral meetings in the coming week to address the conflict in Ukraine, as well as Syria and Iraq.
Both Lavrov and Kerry are expected to attend the 28th session of the United Nations Council on Human Rights in Geneva beginning on Monday, March 2.
