Armenian opposition is in a crisis - analyst
The emphases in the speech of opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) leader, Armenia’s first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan during the March 1 rally were quite logical: given his rich political experience, he could not ignore the new realities in the public and political field, Sergey Minasyan, political analyst, deputy director of the Caucasus Institute, told Panorama.am.
Referring to Ter-Petrosyan’s assessments of several political forces in the country, the expert said that the theses he voiced reflect the reality.
“It is clear that after the “disappearance” of Prosperous Armenia Party from the political arena and given the unique situation within Heritage Party, ANC, in fact, remains the only serious opposition force in the country. Levon Ter-Petrosyan could address that matter at any rate. It is a different matter, however, what formulations he used. It is necessary to understand that the opposition is in a crisis at present,” said the expert.
Regarding the accusations that the Armenian National Congress has monopolized the opposition arena, according to the analyst, they correspond to reality. In his words, one of its reasons is the viability of ANC.
