Azerbaijani teachers condemn MP who had advised to earn money as laborers
The Azerbaijani MP Khadi Rajabali’s noisy statements addressed to the teachers – who are not satisfied with their 150-200 manats (approximately 157-210 dollars) salary – suggesting earning money as laborers, was viewed as an insult by the Azerbaijani teachers, Azerbaijani news outlet Oxu.az reports.
According to the article, Fatma Hajiyeva, a teacher from Azerbaijani school No 83, said to the site Aznews.az that she does not understand how a person of such a position as Rajabali could have allowed himself to make such remarks.
“What is a teacher? A worker or a maidservant? After the remarks of such people we regret having chosen our profession. That is the worst attitude voiced towards teachers,” she rebelled stressing that she is not content with the teacher’s salary and she is also tutoring.
According to the article, Azerbaijani teacher from elite high school Vali Aliyev said his 200 manats salary does not even cover his utility costs. In his turn, Azerbaijani professor Gudrat Isagov from the Institute of Physics of National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan believes that Rajabali’s remarks about the teachers are conditioned by the fact that he has been elected an MP for several times and he is sure that he will go on holding his position in the following terms as well.
Azerbaijani news outlet Haqqin.az turned to the topic as well noting that MP Khadi Rajabali did not take back his scandalous statement. However, he blamed the opposition journalists for allegedly taking his words out of the context.
“Which one? That he said that his mother earned money as a weaver after work? That his brothers… married teachers? Is this an ‘excuse’ indeed!” the outlet writes.
Azerbaijani news outlet Minval.az had earlier written that there was a time when Rajabali complained of his salary in an interview to Interaz.tv. “My salary exceeds the level of pension for more than 5 times, but what happens is that that money is not enough for me. The reason is that the demand and supply are not proportioned,” the outlet cited the MP.
