Johannes Hahn: EU encourages further dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan
The current situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement is not satisfactory from the European point of view, EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, said at a news conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in Yerevan.
The status quo is unacceptable for the European Union and a peaceful settlement remains a priority, he noted.
Johannes Hahn said that the European Union supports the negotiations within the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship aimed at the settlement of the conflict.
“The European Union encourages further dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including at the level of presidents, which is very important. It is also important to respect the ceasefire, show restraint in actions and statements, and create an atmosphere that will be favorable for the settlement of the conflict,” he concluded.
