Azerbaijani information agency distorts Foreign Ministry of Sweden’s reaction to parliamentary elections in NKR
The Azerbaijani media have once again falsified the statement of a foreign government agency regarding the topic of Karabakh, attempting to simulate international support for the Azerbaijani side. This time the Azerbaijani information agency APA distorted Foreign Ministry of Sweden’s response to the inquiry about the parliamentary elections in Nagorno Karabakh Republic, which are due to be held in May 2015.
The elections are characterized as ‘illegitimate’ in the Russian-language version of the news published by the Azerbaijani information agency; however, the English version presents the original response of the Foreign Ministry of Sweden, which lacks that wording.
As a response to the inquiry of the Azerbaijani side, the Foreign Ministry of Sweden only called on the sides of Karabakh conflict to double their efforts in order to reach a negotiated settlement of the conflict. It highlighted that Sweden in its turn supports the efforts of OSCE Minsk Group and its co-chairs in that process. The Swedish MFA proceeded with once again reminding about the previous EU statements concerning the elections in NKR in 2010 and 2012. It was noted in that statements that those elections should not obstacle the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
