Man arrested in Azerbaijan for complaint letter to President
The arrest of Elvan Nabiyev from Kurdamir district, Azerbaijan, gave rise to the discontent of the population of the district and they came out to protest. Nabiyev was arrested 5 days after he sent a letter to Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijani media outlet Haqqin.az reports citing the newspaper Yeni Musavat.
According to the article, one of the protesters, Natik Mammadov, said that the problems began after Elvan Nabiyev and 24 more people wrote a letter to the President of Azerbaijan complaining of the arbitrariness of the officials.
“Immediately after that the pressures began. By the head of the district Jeykhun Jafarov’s order, our shops started to be demolished. The chief of police Ogtay Mammadov himself exerted pressure on us,” Natik Mammadov said stressing that soon they will hold a more powerful protest.
Azerbaijani media outlet Minval.az adds that around 70 people in Kurdamir demand the release of a man who has dared to write a letter to Baku about the excesses in their district and was arrested under the order of the head of the district. According to the latest news provided by the outlet, the protesters took the direction of the building of the executive power of the district.
