Azerbaijani media spread disinformation because they don’t know how to handle NKR government agencies’ online resources
Azerbaijani information site Day.az, citing information agency Anspess, spread disinformation about the Armenian side allegedly hiding the death of an Armenian soldier, Hovsep Andreasyan. To back this supposition, the site highlights that his death allegedly became known only after his posthumous award by Bako Sahakyan, the President of Nagorno Karabakh Republic, and that the reports about the young man’s death are only published in the Armenian version of the sites.
Both of the claims of the Azerbaijani media are erroneous. First, the news about the above-mentioned Armenian soldier’s death was initially published on NKR Defense Army’s official website on 29 March. Second, the Armenian media published this news in Russian, too, which can easily be checked using the search engine Google.
As for the posthumous award, the information regarding this can also be accessed on the Russian version of NKR President’s official website.
Meanwhile, as the Azerbaijani media report, the Azerbaijani army has lately had at least 2 losses which the Ministry of Defense does not officially confirm. The Azerbaijani media outlet Oxu.az, citing the information agency AzerTac, writes that officer and senior lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, Ahmadov Igbal Serraf oglu, born in 1980, “was killed in the battles on the frontline on 27 March” and was buried in his native Lankaran district on 28 March.
According to the article, Azerbaijani high officials, fellow soldiers from his military unit, representatives of executive branch and district community were present at the funeral. Remarkably, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan did not officially inform about the loss, while the information, along with photos taken at the funeral, was spread by the state telegraph agency of the country. However, it was eventually removed.
Besides, Azerbaijani online media Meydan TV reports that Nazim Ibrahimov, a soldier from one of the military units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, shot and killed his fellow soldier, Vasif Firudinly, on 29 March. The details of the incident are not specified.
Note also that since early 2015 the Azerbaijani government agencies acknowledged the death of 13 servicemen: according to official information, 9 of them were combat deaths on the frontline; the cause of the death of one of the dead servicemen is not voiced.
