Armenian-Australian businesses and employees asked to take day off on April 24th
The Armenian Genocide Centenary Commemoration Committee of Australia (AGCCC) is calling on Armenian-Australians to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on April 24, 2015 by closing their businesses, or taking the day off work, armenia.com.au reports.
This initiative, which will be carried out across the world, will allow Armenian-Australians to honor the lives of the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide, create awareness of the Armenian Genocide, and take part in various events on April 24th to mark the Centenary.
The AGCCC has prepared signs, which can be downloaded and printed, to be used by business owners and employees alike. Armenian business owners are encouraged to stick these signs on their doors/windows, while employees are encouraged to place them on their desks or places of work.
Vache Kahramanian of the AGCCC explained: “These signs will serve to notify customers and colleagues at hundreds of workplaces why we Armenians, 100 years on, commemorate this unpunished crime that was committed against our ancestors. This will create grassroots awareness of the Armenian Genocide, and remind Turkey that Armenians will remain vigilant until justice is received.”
Kahramanian added: “There are numerous events planned to mark the centenary and we encourage Armenian-Australians to actively participate to mark this solemn event.”
