Radicals throw official into dumpster in western Ukraine
The Right Sector radical activists in west Ukrainian city of Ivano-Frankivsk have captured the head of the local justice department and dumped him into a garbage bin, the UNN news agency reported on Thursday, according to TASS.
The radicals demanded Vasily Kavatsyuk's resignation, the agency said. After he refused to step down, they rolled the dumpster towards the city's railway station pledging they would not let him go until he resigned.
Kavatsyuk is not the first victim of the so-called 'trash lustration' which gained popularity with the Right Sector and other radicals due to passiveness of the Ukrainian police.
Over a dozen Ukrainian politicians, lawmakers and officials have suffered from trash dumping since the country's parliament adopted the lustration law in September.
Among them was Vitaly Zhuravsky, a parliament member, who was attacked by an angry mob twice in September 2014.
The lustration law established the legal framework for checking officials and politicians linked to the former president Viktor Yanukovych ousted in February 2014.
The Russian Supreme Court banned the Right Sector in Russia as extremist in November last year.
