Armenian President attends dinner event with Italian parliamentarians
As part of his official visit to Italy, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Thursday attended a dinner event with Italian parliamentarians.
In his remarks, the President reflected on Armenian-Italian relations, the mission Armenia assumed in light of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, and Armenia’s willingness to become a bridge between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.
“I am greatly honored to enjoy your high presence in this historical palace in the heart of Rome. Thank you for your warm and friendly welcome,” President Sargsyan said.
Speaking about the Armenian Genocide centenary, the President said, “On April 24 the Armenians worldwide together with the international community’s representatives will say no to all genocides and bells of numerous churches will be ringing – from Argentina to Italy, from the United States to Armenia.”
“Ahead of the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga, new legal foundations for the Armenia-EU relations will be built, after which our relations will enter a new stage,” the President said, commenting on the Armenia-European Union relations.
“Meanwhile, being a member of the Eurasian Economic Union and having the standards closest to the EU we can become a bridge for the European countries, including Italy, connecting with the 170-million EEU market,” the President added.
