Turkish Peoples’ Democratic Party co-chairman hails Pope’s Armenian Genocide remarks
Co-chairman of Turkey’s opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Selahattin Demirtas criticized Turkey’s policy of Armenian Genocide denial and expressed his support to Pope Francis who used the word “genocide” in his remarks during the Holy Mass in the Vatican dedicated to the Armenian Genocide centenary, Turkish newspaper Sabah reports.
Commenting on Turkey’s reaction to the Pope’s statement during the Vatican Mass, Demirtas said, “The Pope says something, and they react like a child. It is necessary to explain to the public how to face the Armenian reality. And this work should be done at the state level. This issue cannot be solved by saying that “we do not accept the Pope.”"
