Armenian family in Turkey deprived of income after Pope’s Armenian Genocide remarks
A wave of anger and threats has erupted in Turkey after Pope Francis’ recent statement calling Armenian Genocide “the first genocide of the 20th century.”
According to Turkish news outlet t24.com, after this statement, a 59-year-old Armenian, Vannis Cetinyan, and his family living in Dumluyan village of Adana were deprived of social benefits. The local authorities said to them: “Go and get benefits from the Armenian Diaspora!”
Later, Vannis also lost job as the villagers refused to turn to him for agricultural works.
The Cetinyan family is the only Christian family in the village.
The villager tells that his two sons are being insulted and subjected to psychological pressure at school and are being forced to attend lessons of Islam.
“They say that “this Armenian family should be drowned in the river, they all should be slaughtered and their women should be raped,”” Vannis said.
