Haykakan Zhamanak: Banana prices rise in Armenia
The banana prices in Armenia have risen by more than 10 percent compared with December 2014, Haykakan Zhamanak reports citing the National Statistical Service of Armenia.
“This is noteworthy as Armenia became a full member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) on January 2 and banana is among the rare products for which the EEU customs duties are lower - 5 percent against 10 percent before Armenia’s accession to the EEU.
“In other words, after Armenia’s accession to the EEU, the cost of customs clearance of banana decreased by 5 percent and the cost price of the product declined in the same amount. However, the official statistical data show a 10 percent increase of banana prices,” the newspaper says.
