Expert: Parking and driving old cars banned in Baku to please tourists during European Games
The head of the Public Relations Department of Traffic Police of Baku, Vagif Asadov, said that the citizens are banned parking in the city center and driving old cars in the streets during the European Games. He explained the strange ban by saying that the foreign guests might form a negative opinion about Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani online resource Meydan TV reports.
Azerbaijani expert, economist Natig Jafarli told Meydan TV that the authorities of the country showed their true anti-national thinking by this step.
“The authorities spent millions of dollars to conceal the half-destroyed and shabby houses in the city micro districts behind expensive fake walls. They established numerous bans for the population so that the foreigners allegedly form a good opinion about Azerbaijan,” he stressed.
The expert reminded that the beggars had been driven out of Baku, the stray dogs had been eliminated and burnt in public places, and the citizens had been banned holding wedding ceremonies and funeral repasts in tents.
According to the article, the economist also highlighted that the Azerbaijani authorities care about the foreigners’ opinion instead of thinking about their citizens.
“They renovate only the center of Baku that comprises Heydar Aliyev Palace, as well as the road leading from the city to the airport. Those who take guests to the micro districts of Baku are called ‘the enemies of the nation,’” the expert said.
Azerbaijani media recently reported that notifications appeared on the walls of the houses in Baku centre banning exposing things and hanging clothes on the balconies overlooking the streets of the city. Supposedly, Baku City Hall has taken up the step for the inaugural European Games.
