Kyrgyzstan’s premier steps down
Kyrgyzstan Prime Minister Djoomart Otorbaev resigned on Thursday, TASS reports.
The resignation was his own decision, government spokesperson Gulnura Topalieva told TASS, "to provide an opportunity for young politicians to try their hand at policy-making" and since "normal political competition must be present in the country."
Otorbaev announced his resignation to parliament after briefing lawmakers on government performance in 2014.
"A democratic country should not have a monopoly of power. I think this branch of power has to be shaken once again so today I declare my resignation," AKIpress news agency quoted the premier as saying.
Members of parliament are expected to begin discussing candidacy for the vacant post and cabinet seats in coming days.
