Patrick Devedjian: Denialism facilitates repetition
“Denialism facilitates repetition.” Patrick Devedjian, a French politician of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) party, said this in his remarks on the second day of the International Social and Political Global Forum against the Crime of Genocide.
Today’s session of the forum is titled “Parliamentarians against Genocide.” The parliamentarians participating in the forum are scheduled to address the session. The global forum is being held as part of the Armenian Genocide centenary events.
“The awful wound which is bleeding, as Pope Francis said, lays responsibilities on us. The first is that it should not recur. It should not recur, yet it recurs,” Devedjian said.
He noted that the forum’s objective is to find ways of fighting efficiently against the repetition of such tragedies. He added that a document will be adopted at the end of the forum summing up all the issues raised in the course of the event.
