Nepal earthquake: 4 arrested for spreading false rumors of impending quake
Police official Bigyan Raj Sharma said 27 have been detained for stealing from homes whose owners moved out following Saturday's quake and powerful aftershocks, Daily Express reports.
The aftershocks have waned but people are still anxious, many preferring to stay out in the open.
Sharma says another four people were arrested for spreading false rumors of an impending quake through social media and text messages.
Picturesque buildings and monuments came crashing down in just minutes when the earthquake struck on Saturday near the capital of Kathmandu, measuring a powerful 7.9 on the richter scale.
More than 8,000 people have been injured and more are sleeping in make shift tents in fear of aftershocks obliterating even more homes and buildings.
While in neighbouring India 61 people were killed and China's official Xinhua News Agency reported 25 dead in Tibet.
But as the rescue efforts continue in Nepal, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala warned that the death toll could rise to a devastating 10,000 people.
