Swedish parliament hosts Armenian Genocide centenary commemoration event
A commemoration event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held in Sweden’s parliament, Riksdag, on April 29, the press service of Armenian Foreign Ministry reports.
The event brought together parliamentarians from all the factions of the Swedish parliament, public and political figures, journalists, and representatives of the Armenian and Assyrian communities.
Armenian Ambassador to Sweden Artak Apitonyan, in his remarks, spoke about the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide as well as the activities aimed at prevention of genocides. He noted that impunity generates new evils, and strongly condemned the terrorist attacks on Armenian cultural sites in Syria.
Mr Apitonyan thanked the Swedish parliamentarians as thanks to their efforts the Riksdag adopted a resolution on the Armenian Genocide in 2010.
Hans Linde, Sweden’s Member of Parliament for the Left Party, for his part, said that he is impressed by the high level of Genocide centenary events held in Armenia on April 22-24.
He highly appreciated Armenia’s active role in the recognition and prevention of genocides, noting that such foreign policy must serve an example for other countries.
