Head-on train crash kills driver, injures 10 in Austria
A head-on train collision in southern Austria has killed one of the train drivers involved and left at least ten people seriously injured, Sputnik reports.
The cause of the crash has not been made clear. A spokesman for the train operator told AFP that it could be that one of the drivers missed a stop signal.
"Passengers were lying around on the train floor, seriously injured, and we then found the trapped driver who was in a critical condition and unresponsive," district fire chief Gerhard Sampt told Austrian daily the Local.
The train driver reportedly died soon after being taken out of the wreckage by firefighters. A woman passenger is reportedly still in critical condition.
According to the fire brigade spokesman, the trains were likely travelling at their regular speed during the crash.
