Armenia, Azerbaijan to discuss Karabakh conflict in Riga
Armenia and Azerbaijan will discuss the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on the sidelines of the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga on May 21-22, an EU representative has said, according to RIA Novosti.
Armenia and Azerbaijan participate in the EU Eastern Partnership Program, which also includes Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
Speaking about the OSCE Minsk Group mission, the EU representative noted that EU member state France is a co-chair in the Minsk Group, which is also co-chaired by Russia and the United States.
“They organize meetings of presidents or foreign ministers of the two countries. Riga will host another meeting of presidents or foreign ministers. This is one of the few processes in which the EU does not participate,” the source said.
He noted that the format of conflict settlement is not changing. “We are absolutely sure of the efforts of our Russian, American and French colleagues to do their utmost. But unfortunately, this is a very complex issue.”
