Turkish intellectual: What happened in Ottoman Turkey was genocide
The Turkish government must recognize the Armenian Genocide and confront its own history, Hasan Burgucuoglu, Germany-based Turkish intellectual, representative of the left-wing faction of Hamburg Parliament, told reporters on Wednesday.
Burgucuoglu noted that he fled Turkey because of his views and settled in Germany.
“I am also guilty of this crime because my ancestors also participated in the genocide,” he said.
Burgucuoglu said that his position is clear: what happened in the Ottoman Turkey was genocide.
According to him, the recognition of the fact of Genocide and clear position on this issue is the criterion of being called a man.
The Turkish intellectual added that the Genocide is going on as the Turks live on the territory which is the historical homeland of the Armenians.
