Five people die in North Philadelphia train derailment
Amtrak company confirmed derailment of its passenger train in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, Sputnik reports.
According to the earlier media reports, eight of ten cars of an Amtrak train traveling from Washington to New York derailed on Tuesday night in northern part of Philadelphia, injuring at least 50 passengers.
At least five people have died in Amtrak train derailment in Philadelphia, mayor Michael Nutter said.
"Unfortunately, we can confirm at least five individuals deceased," Nutter said.
"We are still investigating what is going on," the mayor added.
The injuries reportedly range from minor to serious.
The train was carrying a total 238 passengers and 5 crew members on board. Amtrak said anyone with love ones who may have been on the train can call 1-800-523-9101 for information. Service between Philadelphia and New York is suspended.
