Jewish News Agency: Anti-Semitism and xenophobia still not exterminated in Azerbaijan and Jews face their displays
Energy distribution monopolist CJSC Azerigaz demonstratively turned off the gas supply to apartment of the Baku correspondent of the Jewish News Agency (Agenstvo Yevreyskikh Novostey, AEN) on May 13. Either the political or the ideological credo of the employee of the Narimanov branch of the CJSC Azerigaz served as the “legal basis” for turning off the gas which he expressed in the following wording, “I turn off whoever I wish!” according to the report of Jewish News Agency.
For some reason the wish to turn off the Jewish News Agency correspondent’s gas supply emerged in CJSC Azerigaz whose employees are notorious to the citizens of Azerbaijan for their arbitrariness, and either basically they are not fond of journalists, or they do not love certain journalists belonging to other ethnic groups and religions, the article reads.
“Unfortunately, common Anti-Semitism and xenophobia have not been completely exterminated in Azerbaijan, and the Jewish community members regularly face their displays. Some, not being able to stand the pressure, unfortunately, leave Azerbaijan forever,” Semen Ihiilov, a prominent member of the Jewish community in Azerbaijan, told AEN.
