Nagorno Karabakh Republic joins international event Night of Museums
15 cultural institutions in Nagorno Karabakh joined the international event “The Night of Museums” and worked till midnight. This year the event was dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial, the website Caucasian Knot reports.
“13 museums of the Ministry of Culture and 2 archaeological museums of the Tourism Department every year participate in the event, opening their doors to the visitors until 00.00 so that they have the chance to visit all the expositions. The event’s slogan for this year is ‘Museums are the witnesses of memories,’ and it is dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial,” the spokesperson for the NKR government, Artak Beglaryan, said.
Arevik Hovsepyan from the Ministry of Culture added that the cultural event dedicated to the International Museum Day also continued on May 17 and 18.
According to the Department of Tourism and Historical Environment Protection of the NKR government, the archaeologoical museum Tigranakert and the Knight’s palaces in the village Togh also joined the event. “Along with the expositions, a documentary about the archaeological works in the republic was shown and a number of other cultural programs were organized for the visitors,” Sergey Shahverdyan, the chief of the department, told Caucasian Knot.
In the framework of the event, a photo exhibition titled “The Cultural Treasures of the Western Armenia” opened in the State Museum of History and Regional Studies. “The visitors, especially the tourists, often confess that they discover something new to themselves and their attitude changes towards the Armenian culture, they want to learn more about us. The exhibition dedicated to the cultural values of the Western Armenia will also contribute to the foreigners’ growing interest in Armenia,” Melanya Balayan, the head of the State Museum of History and Regional Studies in Stepanakert, told Caucasian Knot.
