Magnitude 6.9 earthquake registered near Solomon Islands
A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck nearby the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific on Thursday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said, Sputnik reports.
The earthquake, was centred near the Santa Cruz Island group between the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, Oceania at a depth of about six miles, the USGS said.
No damage, as well as no casualties have been reported immediately after the calamity.
The Solomon Islands is part of the so-called Ring of Fire quake zone. It is a strip of volcanoes and tectonic faults in the basin of the Pacific Ocean, and has one of the highest levels of volcanic and seismic activity in the world.
