Armenia’s work yielded results – expert
Armenia’s work of the past two years, after the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius, yielded results, political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan told reporters, commenting on the fourth Eastern Partnership summit held in Riga on May 21-22.
He stressed that the EU, at the official level, is expressing willingness to begin talks with Armenia based on exclusively bilateral relations, which implies not only the political part of the Association Agreement, but also perspectives of economic cooperation.
“What is being talked about is the elaboration of a mechanism for economic cooperation which does not go against Armenia’s commitments within the Eurasian Economic Union. Besides, that document could become a kind of a window between the EEU and EU in terms of launching economic and political cooperation,” said the analyst.
Armenia managed to prove the pragmatism of its position and make its choice understandable for the EU, Melik-Shahnazaryan said.
“Both the EEU and EU understand that there is a need for a platform for political and economic contacts and Armenia is making the bid to become such a platform,” he concluded.
