European Commissioner calls on EU states to raise human rights issue at bilateral meetings with Azerbaijan
Our pressure on Azerbaijan is not so intense. Still, this does not mean that we totally refuse to impact on Azerbaijan, Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement, said during Konrad Adenauer Foundation forum on 28 May, 2015, according to the information agency Turan.
He confessed that EU representatives raise those issues to the President Aliyev and other Azerbaijani officials, but the sides’ views split.
“But I should mention that some EU states representatives – very high-rank politicians – have never raised these issues at the bilateral meetings. The issue is monitored only by the European Union. I call on all the member-states, particularly those who have never done that, to use their political authority to raise the given issues,” the European Commissioner said.
