US-led coalition conducts 26 airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq, Syria
The US-led Coalition against the Islamic State conducted 26 airstrikes on targets in Syria and Iraq, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement, Sputnik reports.
The airstrikes in Iraq hit ISIL fighting positions, vehicles, tactical units weapons as well as an one of the militants sniper positions and homemade explosives cache.
“In Syria, coalition military forces conducted six airstrikes using attack and fighter aircraft,” the CENTCOM statement read on Thursday. “Separately in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted 20 airstrikes approved by the Iraqi Ministry of Defense using attack, fighter, bomber and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL [Islamic State] terrorists.”
In Syria, the Coalition forces launched six airstrikes which destroyed an ISIL trench system, fighting positions and three crude oil collection points.
“Coalition airstrikes struck across Iraq,” Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve Colonel Wayne Marotto said in the statement. “When Daesh [Islamic State] terrorists expose themselves and their equipment, we will strike them.”
