576 trapped in east Ukraine coal mine amid shelling — DPR spokesman
Hundreds of coal miners are trapped underground in eastern Ukraine after their pit lost power in shelling by Kiev forces, a defense ministry spokesman for the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic said, TASS reports.
The incident occurred in the Zasyadko coal mine, in Donetsk, spokesman Eduard Basurin told the journalists.
"Some 576 miners are currently trapped underground," Donetsk news agency quoted Basurin as saying.
It was earlier reported that 375 coal miners were trapped in the Skochinsky coal mine.
